You can put those old coffee cans or cans of veggies, beans or soup to new use by turning them into lovely lanterns.
Materials
Old tin cans
Hammer
Nail
Wire or sting (optional)
LED candle
Instructions
- Remove all the paper labels and stickers and thoroughly clean and dry your tin can
- Fill the can to the top with water and freeze until fully solid. This way, you can poke holes to allow the light to shine through into the can without denting it
- Use a hammer and nails or a chisel to bang holes into the can. Be sure you are on a steady surface when you are making the holes. You can space them randomly or create a decorative pattern
- Punch out two holes on either side of the top of the can so you can add a wire or hefty string to hang the lantern if you choose to once it’s complete
- Defrost the can and empty all the water out to dry
- Place your light source into the bottom of the can and your lantern is ready to display
